Eco-Sailing™ with Serendipity
Whether you are avid sailors or not, cruising  the British Virgin islands on  a boat enables you to experience the best that the individual islands have to offer.  While the trade winds provide  sailors exhilarating sailing there is no requirement to sail continuously. Or at all!!!    During your stay on board you will anchor in a variety of beautiful bays that offer the best in snorkeling and shore-side exploring.  Be as lazy  or active as you like.   Even lying in the hammock nature smiles at you – a turtle pops his head out of the water, pelicans feast on minnows – the turquoise waters call to you.

SNORKELING:  The British Virgin Islands offer spectacular snorkeling.  The wide variety of reefs represents an opportunity for everyone from the complete novice to the expert to observe the intricate life of the reef community.  Trish has an extensive knowledge of coral reef ecology and loves to share   that with her guests.  For those looking for more adventure she will take you  out to  more remote reefs that offer deep drop offs and a chance to be with pelagic fish.  Discover Xmas Tree Worms, a tiny male Jaw Fish protecting eggs in his mouth, a Blue Tang Sea Fans, Jewell Fish and much much more.

DIVING:  Many of the BVI dive sites are shallow enough  to be good for snorkeling.  However for qualified divers who wish to explore deeper or  dive the BVI wrecks then rendevous dives with one of the local reputable dive companies can be arranged..    It’s a great way to get the best of both worlds and to enable those who don’t dive to continue with their fun on board while the divers are off and away.

REEF CHECK:  Trish introduced Reef Check – a Global Coral Reef Monitoring programme to the BVI in 1997.  Currently the owner of Serendipity , his friends, Trish and and a local dive company in  the BVI run Reef Check BVI annually. Serendipity is thus contributing to vital coral reef research in the BVI.  For more info go to  www.reefcheck.org

BIRD WATCHING:  Dinghy by Brown Pelican rookeries or sail close by the cliffs where the  Tropic Birds nest in the winter. Watch for Osprey, Magnificent Frigate Birds, Brown Boobies, and severall species of terns.  In the summer months the endangered Roseate Terns often choose to nest on our islands.  Ashore there are Bananaquits, Hummingbirds and Turtle Doves ( for which Tortola is named) and salt ponds that host a variety of wading birds.  At Flamingo Pond in Anegada, Flamingoes were  reintroduced  in the late  90’s and currently number close to 200

WHALES:  From January thru mid -April we watch for the Humpback Whales here to breed and give birth.

WALKS:  From most anchorages there is access ashore to quiet roads and trails. You can visit areas with stunning views, walk along soft sandy  beaches, past salt ponds and historical markers.  You’ll observe the vegetation of remnant rain forests and dry tropical forests.  There are orchids, and bromeliads, and wild frangipani scenting the air and spectacular flowering century plants attracting Hummingbirds,   Bananaquits huge bumblebees  and Pearly Eyed Thrashers.

PORTS OF CALL:  Serendipity sails to the most beautiful areas of the British Virgin Islands, including Peter Island, Norman Island, ( Robert Louis Stevenson’s inspiration for Treasure Island), Jost Van Dyke , Cooper Island, Virgin Gorda,Tortola and Anegada   Have us put together a sailing itinerary for you or plot your own course.  The choice is yours.  Either way, Serendipity sailing adventures is the only way to go!!!
